Answers to commonly asked questions

1. Why should I have my Wedding Day professionally videotaped and edited?

Imagine what it would be like to watch the story of your parent's or even your grandparent's wedding. Most couples say their wedding day went by so fast that they could hardly remember everything that happened. Not surprisingly, one of the biggest regrets couples experience after their wedding is the loss of those once-in-a-lifetime moments that should have been documented so they could be relived with future generations. There is simply no substitute for a visually and emotionally moving account of one of the most defining events in your life.

2. Is a professional Videographer necessary?

If you want quality . . . yes. An amateur or semi-pro with good intentions cannot compete with a professional with the right equipment and experience. Your wedding day is the biggest and most important day of your life. You won't want to lose a moment of it. With a professionally-produced wedding video, you won't.

3. Why shouldn't I just have a friend do it?

Unless your friend is Steven Spielberg, we can't emphasize enough what a huge difference there is between home video and a professionally edited and produced video shot with multiple cameras, supplemental lighting (if needed) and high-quality audio reproduction. Your friend or relative may have great intentions, but it's very unlikely they have the equipment (professional cameras, wireless microphones, professional editing software and gear) that a professional has. It's also very unlikely they have the know-how or experience to artistically edit and produce a great video. Also, do they have the readiness to be on top of all the especially important moments? To make a great video, you must be meticulous in searching out the best angles and experienced enough to anticipate the best moments. Your wedding story is simply too important to leave to chance. You wouldn't have your friend try to fix your car just because he owned a screwdriver, so why entrust the memories of the biggest day of your life to him just because he owns a video camera?

4. Is the equipment you use, professional and up to date?

The cameras used are digital three-chip DV video cameras. I use wireless as well as on camera and remote microphones. The footage is edited digitally and cinematically and artistically blended in a multi-computer based editing suite using professional software.

5. How do you work with photographers?

My goal is working with any photographer is to negotiate where each of us will be working and what to expect from one another. Largely, I base my approach on YOUR preferences.

6. Are you inconspicuous when shooting?

My videos are in the style of documenting the emotion and feeling, not directing. However, much of this is up to you. Whether you want me on the alter with you, or hidden in the balcony, it's your call. I work with you to figure out the approach that best suits your style. Always, my primary concern is making you and your guests feel comfortable. It may be necessary to use an on-camera light during the reception because of the low available light in most halls, but I use lights only when absolutely necessary.

7. How long are the finished videos?

Typically, the finished videos will last no longer than 60-90 minutes, but sometimes longer, depending on the length of the ceremony and the amount of peripheral activity. Don't be fooled into thinking that a longer video means a better video. Rather, a longer video generally means a lot more fast forwarding. I believe the length of a video should be determined by the value of your content and not by the unwritten rule that says your video should be at least 2 hours or more.

8. Why is music so important to my wedding video?

Music sets the tone for your entire video. I've seen wedding videos that rely on the same music over and over again, regardless of the emotional content of the scene. It's more important that the music fits the mood of the occasion, reflecting your personality and enhancing the moment. No matter what your musical taste, you can have a great deal of input as to what music goes into your video. Keep in mind that each wedding video also includes a (3-5 minute) highlight video that showcases the best moments of your wedding with the music. This is perfect for when you want to experience your big day all over again without watching your entire video.

9. How long will it take to finish editing the video?

Typically, videos will take between 6-8 weeks to complete depending on the season. It is not uncommon that I spend upwards of 50 hours editing a video. If you've seen my work you realize that the video footage is thoughtfully and artistically edited to become a more emotional and meaningful experience. The only thing I guarantee is that it will be worth the wait. We also custom-design your DVD menu's to fit your wedding.

10. Is a retaining fee required for your services?

Yes, a retainer of one-third of the contracted total is required. That amount is refundable up to 180 days before the ceremony in case of a change of date or postponement. This retainer will also reserve the date of your Wedding. Cash or checks are currently accepted.

11. How soon before my wedding should I reserve the date?

Popular summer dates fill up quickly. It is not uncommon to book 6 months to a year in advance. No dates are guaranteed without a signed agreement.
